Guide to getting the best from your Clipper
DON'T !
- Attempt to work on the clippers whilst connected to the mains supply.
- Attempt to clip a wet or perspiring animal.
- Touch the blades when machine is switched 'ON'.
- Switch the machine 'ON' with loose or missing blade teeth. In the interests of safety ensure the blades are tightly seated.
- Over tighten blades in an attempt to force them to clip.
- Immerse any part of the clipper in liquid of any kind - oil or other lubricant.
- Attempt to use the machine without first oiling the blades.
- Use WD 40 or other solvents/scouring agents to clean the clipper or the blades.
- Store in damp places.
- Work with a damaged mains cable!
DO !
- Clean air filters regularly (where applicable), this will prolong the effectiveness of the clippers by freeing moving parts and contacts of hair, and keeping cool those moving parts with unrestricted airflow.
- Inspect carbon brushes (where accessible to user) on a regular basis and replace periodically to maintain performance and motor life expectancy.
- Clean and oil cutter heads before use ensuring there are no hairs between blades.
- When the blades are in regular use dismantle them every few days (horse & cattle blades only), clean with a soft brush or cloth, cleaning carefully between the teeth. Always oil blades lightly after cleaning to prevent rusting and aid cooling.
- Clean heavily soiled coats prior to clipping.
- Comb matted coats prior to clipping.
- On clippers which have 'blade adjustment', tighten the knurled screw just enough to allow the upper blade to be moved from side to side with moderate pressure.
- Clean thoroughly and oil after use before storing in a dry place. If the blades are to be stored for several months before use, surfaces can be smeared with Vaseline for added protection.
- Check mains cable thoroughly before use!
- Lubricate blades frequently during use.
